Dogs need to be careful when eating fruit

This article is written corresponding to the previous article “fruit that dogs and cats can’t give pets”. In fact, I don’t advocate eating fruit for pets alone. Although some fruits are good for the body, considering the low absorption rate of dogs and most people’s difficulty in mastering which fruits pets have no problem after eating, it’s easy to be poisoned as a result of letting go of eating.

Dog and cat families can’t give dogs fruit

However, we also need to avoid the same fear. Even if most fruits are not good for dogs, they still need to be consumed to a certain extent before they become ill. I wouldn’t say that one bite would kill me, and then I went to the hospital to induce acute vomiting.

During the Spring Festival holiday, I received some inquiries, some of which were related to dogs stealing fruit. One of my friend’s dogs stole 1-2 cherries, vomited cherry stones and retched the next day. Since the 3-hour emetic golden period has passed, I suggest drinking more water for the dog to increase metabolism, properly filling some milk and trying to diarrhea. But I don’t think a cherry kernel should cause serious poisoning in dogs.

Watermelon skin is better than watermelon pulp

Because too many friends want to eat fruit for their pets, here are some fruits for pet owners to choose from:

Apples must be the first choice for dogs. Cool and sweet taste, moderate moisture and rich cellulose are good for dogs, especially for some dogs with constipation or hard stool. Eating apples according to their weight is very helpful to their health. After cleaning, remove the apple core and only give the apple meat and skin.

Peaches, pears and watermelons are all fruits with high sugar and moisture. These two fruits are not recommended to be eaten, especially those with diabetes. Pears and apples need to go to the core to eat meat, which is relatively safe. Watermelon is a wonderful fruit.

Here I suggest that when pet owners eat watermelon in summer, they should not give the dog watermelon pulp, but can appropriately leave a few thick watermelon skins for the dog to eat. The sugar and water content of watermelon peel are much less, which greatly reduces the adverse effects. Watermelon peel is also a medicine in animal husbandry and traditional Chinese medicine. It is used to treat some diseases of dogs.

1: Replenish water and diuresis. When cats and dogs don’t like drinking water and urinate less, they can eat watermelon skin to increase their water intake. At the same time, watermelon also has the effect of diuresis and drainage swelling. Even drinking with urine and replenishing water can also be treated. Especially for bladder inflammation, stones, crystallization and so on, it has a good effect when you need to drink a lot of water to urinate.

2: Treat constipation. Like apples, a large dose of watermelon peel as part of food can increase the water in the intestines and stomach of cats and dogs and alleviate constipation.

3: to treat stomatitis and oral ulcers, I remember that there is a watermelon spray in human medicine specially for oral ulcers, and also in animal medicine, watermelon skin has the same effect. The biggest trouble is how to prevent the dog from eating it directly. The traditional Chinese medicine is to stir fry the watermelon peel and grind the powder, sprinkle it on the oral wound, or mix it with honey and apply it to the wound.

You need to pick seeds and stones to eat fruit

Cherries and plums, as I wrote in my article before, have cyanide toxin in their core. Many friends asked if the pulp outside is not poisonous and can you eat it? The answer is yes, the outside pulp is edible. However, dogs are acute. It’s easy to eat them before you finish wrapping the core, or start in advance when you see something on the table when you know it can eat.

There are three points to pay attention to when eating fruit for dogs

1: Try not to give the dog fruit with stones, especially the peach stones are so big and round with sharp ends. It is very easy to block the intestines and even scratch a wound on the intestines. Dogs will not bite or spit out nuclei, and their intestines and stomach are more unlikely to digest and absorb. The final result is likely to need surgery.

2: Try not to eat fruit with seeds. Some water fruits contain toxins. After chewing, the toxins will be dissolved and absorbed in the stomach, leading to dog poisoning.

3: Try not to eat too much fruit. Eating too much fruit at one time is easy to cause diarrhea. For example, a small amount of bananas is a good food. If you eat too much, you will sometimes have constipation and sometimes diarrhea.

The above recommended fruit can only be said to be suitable for most cats and dogs. Specifically, each pet may have its own situation. Therefore, once the pet has diarrhea and vomiting after eating, don’t try this fruit again in the future. Pet health always comes first. Don’t get sick in order to satisfy your appetite.
