As August arrives, most regions in the Northern Hemisphere enter the critical transition period from summer to autumn. With lingering high temperatures, highly active mosquitoes, and continuous hatching of residual parasite eggs in the environment, this month remains a vital node for annual parasite prevention and control. Pets face three major parasite threats in August. First, external parasites such as fleas and ticks remain in their active breeding period, keeping infection risk high in outdoor grasslands and wooded areas. Second, mosquito density stays at an elevated level, sustaining the transmission risk of heartworm, which causes severe cardiopulmonary damage once infected. Third, warm and humid conditions accelerate the development of intestinal parasite eggs, maintaining high infection rates of roundworms and hookworms. Many owners relax protection assuming parasites decrease in autumn, which easily leads to seasonal infections.
