[Active ingredient]
Firocoxib
[Description]
This product is Tan-brown tablets with a break line on one side
[Pharmacodynamics]
Firocoxib is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) that exerts antipyretic, analgesic, and anti-inflammatory effects by selectively inhibiting the synthesis of prostaglandins mediated by cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2). In in vitro whole-blood assay using canine samples, the selectivity of firocoxib for COX-2 is approximately 380-fold higher than that for COX-1.
A bioequivalence study was conducted in 48 healthy adult Beagle dogs, with the original firocoxib chewable tablets as the reference formulation. The results demonstrated that this product is bioequivalent to the original firocoxib chewable tablets.
[Indications]
For the relief of pain and inflammation associated with osteoarthritis and clinical surgeries in dogs.
[Dosage and administration]
Calculated based on firocoxib content.
Route of administration: Oral
Dosage regimen: 5 mg per 1 kg of body weight, once daily for dogs.
Perioperative use: When used to relieve pain and inflammation caused by clinical surgeries, administer approximately 2 hours before surgery, and continue for 3 consecutive days. Further administration at the same dosage may be continued as directed by a veterinarian.
Weight-based dosage guide:
Dogs weighing 3–5.5 kg: 0.5 tablet per dose
Dogs weighing 5.6–10 kg: 1 tablet per dose
Dogs weighing 10.1–15 kg: 1.5 tablets per dose
[Adverse reactions]
Occasional vomiting and diarrhea may occur, which usually resolve after discontinuation of treatment. In case of severe adverse reactions, discontinue treatment immediately and consult a veterinarian.
Similar to other NSAIDs, severe adverse reactions may occur; in very rare cases, these reactions may be fatal.
Do not use in pregnant or lactating bitches.
Do not use in dogs younger than 10 weeks of age or weighing less than 3 kg of bodyweight
Do not use in dogs with gastrointestinal bleeding, hematological dyscrasia, or hemorrhagic disorders; do not use in dehydrated, hypovolaemic or hypotensive dogs.
Do not use concomitantly with corticosteroids, other NSAIDs, or any potentially nephrotoxic medicinal products.
This product may be administered alone or with food.
Discontinue treatment if any of the following reactions occur: recurrent diarrhea, vomiting, fecal occult blood, sudden weight loss, anorexia, lethargy, or abnormal liver/kidney biochemical parameters.
Since anesthetics may affect renal blood perfusion, intravenous fluid therapy should be considered during surgery to reduce potential renal complications associated with the use of this product during the perioperative period.
Avoid concurrent use with other drugs with high plasma protein binding rates, to prevent competitive binding to plasma proteins (which may increase the concentration of free drug and lead to adverse reactions).
Return any unused half-tablet to the original package and store for a maximum of 7 days.
Do not administer in excess of the recommended dosage.
Wash hands thoroughly after handling this product.
Store this product out of the reach of children.
